Artistic Bio
1982 : Starts playing percussion musical instruments at the age of 10, in Germany.
1984 : Continues hi s education in Bulgaria with different teachers on xylophone, vibes and drumset .
1993 : Enters the State Music Academy, Pop and Jazz department . As a student, plays actively in several Rock and Jazz projects .
1995 : Wins the audition for a drummer at the Bulgarian National Radio and starts playing in its Big Band. As a musician at the National Radio, takes part in a wide array of festivals, concerts, TV shows, studio recordings of Jazz and Classical music, as well Bulgarian and foreign movie soundtracks. Additionally, plays with some of the most famous Bulgarians singers and musicians .
1999 – 2000 : Plays at the prime talk - show with Todor Kolev on Bulgarian National TV and Georgi Borissov Brass Band sponsored by Sofia Municipality .
2000 – 2007 : In the summer of 2000, Venko and three other musicians form the band TE (They), which eventually becomes one of the most successful pop bands, with 2 albums, 10 video singles, live concert DVD etc .
Since its formation until 2007, the band played at over national tours sponsored by big organizations and advertisers . During the period 2000 – 2007, Venko earns over 20 awards and nominations in the national TV and radio charts . The TE band was awarded First Prize at the National Media Festival ‘Albena’ for their ‘TE Unplugged’ live concert DVD . During the same period, Venko, with TE band, has taken part in big music events such as concerts by SimplyRed, Incognito , Earth Wind and Fire Experience, SimpleMinds, Mezzoforte, Brand New Heavies etc.
2001 : On the Music Jam festival, Venko is part of the trio of famous German pop and jazz bass player Frank Itt.
2003 : Starts his career as a Percussion Instruments professor at the Music Department of New Bulgarian University .
2004 : As part of the Music Jam Festival, together with world renowned musicians David Garfield and John Pena, present a live show plus a specialized workshop.
2006 : Receives a Master’s degree in Sound Engineering at the Music Department of NBU .
2007 : Organizes the first - of - a - kind workshop at the music schools in Bulgaria’s six largest cities: Drums Workshop Tour . Participates in and leads workshops at the international Saulkrasti Jazz Festival in Latvia and at Barabanny Beat in Minsk, Belarus .
2008 : Drummer in the Music Idol 2 TV music show. Releases the instructional Drum Video : technical and musical and aesthetic aspects DVD, and also conducts the second Drums Wor kshop Tour .
2009 – 2010 : Drummer at the third season of the Music Idol show and other popular TV features . Records a live concert DVD with Jon Lord of Deep Purple. The recording is made in Bucharest, and filmed by the Romanian National Television.
Venko Poromanski has played in concerts in the following countries : Austria, Germany, Belgium, UK, Latvia, Belarus, Romania, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Canada, USA, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Venko has worked with world famous names such as Jon Lord, Mike Stern and George Duke .
Since 2013 , Venko is a member of the FONDATION supergroup – concert tours in Bulgaria and Bulgarian communities on 4 continents .
2016 – acquires a Doctor ’s degree, PhD in Musicology.
2017 – starts his career as an Assistant Professor in National Music Academy in Sofia .
